14: Meet Annabelle: A talented beauty therapist and mental health survivor

Updated: Oct 15

To say I am in awe of Annabelle would be one of the biggest understatements of my life. It's simply not enough.

I have only been going to, and known Annabelle for a year and since relocating to a new area; but my god am I glad I found her! Aside of the fact that she is an AMAZING beauty therapist (my brows have never looked better, her waxing skills are off the charts and I know from her others how great her nail skills are), she is simply meant to be in my life. I can't describe her any other way.

She made me feel at ease from day one (and when you're lying on a bed pretty much naked and showing off your 'lady crown jewels' to someone for the first time, that's hugely important). And during our constantly funny - and sometimes serious - chats, Annabelle had touched on her mental health battles, but only as far as was appropriate for a 'client session' and in response to questions I perhaps shouldn't have, but did ask. However, the extent of her battles was completely unknown to me. So for her to open up, like she did, and talk in depth and with such grace and hilarious humour (I'm quite often laughing, as you'll hear, about quite dark topics), was as awe inspiring as it was a privilege to be a part of.

And she did it to help others, and because she could. She's put in the work (and what hard work that has been!), so she can talk candidly - and even laugh - about it. Which doesn't mean it's over, far from it. As she mentions in the chat, this illness will be with her forever.

The 'black dog' as she calls it, will be trailing her forever. The difference is simply that she now acknowledges that dog, looks it in the eye, maybe even gives in a nod, and then she keeps walking.

Annabelle's social channels are: @annabellemiles_beauty and @olive_oakham

Enjoy.

Chops x

PS. As with Gen's pod, this pod was recorded with one mic (after my mic lead issue), so apologies if I sound a bit distant. Likewise, there is some background noice coming from the rest of the salon, so again, apologies.
