15: Meet TJ: A hugely experienced gardening guru and natural earth advocate

Updated: Oct 15

I've known TJ, or Teej for a long time... Her family (including her 2 older brothers that I had massive crushes on) used to live across the road from us when I was young, and along with some other kids from the our street, we all played innocent street games together, like 'one, two, three and in' etc (or poddy 1,2,3 and in... no?), plus a bit of kiss chase here and there ;-) after school and at weekends.

And as TJ points out in the chat, back then I always thought of her as a really strong-minded (bad-ass) kind-of girl. Certainly a lot stronger than I ever was (she was also a year older than me, which meant waaaay cooler).

So when TJ then told me that she'd lost that confidence as she got older, and grew to really doubt herself in her 20s (to the point of suffering with pretty sever and anxiety), it was borderline crazy to hear. Thankfully, she found herself again, but I'll let her explain that to you.

Now in truth, TJ and I had lost contact by secondary school... Her family moved away, then mine did and of course we both grew up and went on very different education and life paths; however, as adults we reconnected on socials, so I knew things like she'd done her crazy (and super cool) travel year with her family a few years ago, and I knew what she worked in the gardening world somehow... But as I've now realised... That wasn't even the half of it. TJ has been busy since we last properly spoke... Very busy!

TJ is utterly self-made. In the sense that she has carved out 3 hugely successful horticultural careers from scratch. How? Quite simply by following the 'no school like the old school' rules of: 1. working really hard (and we're talking hard manual labour work), 2. having the sheer will and determination to succeed and better herself, and 3. the belief in doing a really, really good job - for herself and for her clients.

Brilliant girl. Brilliant woman. Brilliant career. Brilliant story.

TJ's social handle is @tjkennedy_design

Enjoy.
