I didn't know Vicky 'suffered' with Dyslexia. But then again, I have only ever known her socially, and she's developed such advanced coping mechanisms, I guess it simply never came up.
Vicky mentions her dyslexia early on in our chat; not just because it's something she's keen to talk openly about, but also because it has affected her from a very young age. Back when she had no idea that she had it, wasn't remotely diagnosed for it, and as such struggled academically, which in turn severely affected her confidence.
Her solution? To (as she calls it) 'lean in more'... Work harder, re-read and triple-check everything, in order to compensate for the fact that her writing and spelling wasn't as good as others, and to distract from the fact her brain struggles with long-term memory recall.
And it worked. Leaning-in/working harder paid off; because despite her struggles, Vicky's had a great career and has continued to impress everyone she's ever reported into. To the point that promotions have come relatively smoothly for her. She's always put in the ground work, the hard work, which made 'special projects' and promotions a no-brainer for her bosses to assign.
And now that she's 'the boss', Vicky is determined to help those that have struggled like she did, and by doing that, prevent the leaning-in and long working hours quite as much.
... Which doesn't mean to say she's a softy. Far from it, that girl can break balls like the best of 'em!
Enjoy.
