I am officially girl-crushing on Henna. I can't help it. She beautiful, talented, driven, focussed, and wonderfully positive. She's a feminist beacon!
And I got this vibe the very first time I met her, which as I say in the pod, is before I even came up with the idea for TWW. I left my daughter's dental app thinking, wow, she's fab.
So as I also say in the pod, Henna's been on my 'hit list' for a while; but even when I finally got round to messaging her, and she said yes, it still took a couple of months to pin date a down. Thankfully we eventually did, hoorah!
Henna gives lots of great advice and intel about the highs and lows of dentistry, and is honest about what was and wasn't for her within the field; but perhaps the most poignant chats we had (in my opinion) were about the current craze for fillers and veneers; and (not only what that fundamentally does to your teeth, but), the fact that any work is final?! Something I just don't think lots of, particularly young people, consider.
... Teeth NEVER grow back, so whatever cosmetic work you do, is done for life. The consequences of it are a lifetime of upkeep, dental bills and... quite frankly... paranoia. And yes I'm old and out of touch, but do people REALLY consider all of that as they are making these 'quick fix' vanity decisions? Plus, what 'looks good' and is trendy now, likely won't be in 10-years, so then what?
I could have chatted to Henna for ages about this, and about other hot topics, like (the effects on teeth of) vaping with the younger generation; but I had to let the poor woman get back to her busy life - and her young kids - because not only is she all of those things I describe at the top, but she's also a fab mum to 2 young kiddies.
... Girl crush ahoy!
Enjoy.
