I know Lisa because she kindly volunteered herself in a women's 'work' group I joined a few month's ago. It's called the Southwood Social Hub and it's full of amazing working women - mavens. A good friend recommended it to me and having done a post in it, explaining what I do and asking what everyone else does for work/a living, it was clear to see why... LOTS of amazing, talented women, all supporting each other and all from every walk of life.
Lisa (last week's pod) was my first Southwood maven to interview, and Nicola is my second. My next 3 are also mavens, just as an FYI ;-)
But back to Nicola... I had wanted to pod an acupuncturist for a while; I know someone locally to me, who is one, and had initially asked her (a good 7/8-months ago), but she has a lot going on personally, so it never quite came off. When Nicola then responded to my post and said 'Hi, I'm an acupuncturist', I was straight on the DMs to her.
The thing I noticed most of all about Nicola, before, during and after the pod, is just how calm she is... Perhaps in comparison to me (and my whirlwind of a personality), or perhaps in general... She's so very calm.
Nicola also had a lovely mist diffuser going in the room, when I arrived, which smelt lovely, and was in itself, calming. Sadly, with my allergic nose it soon meant my nose was running and sneezing (which I've duly edited out)... Even my nose doesn't want me to be calm?!
Hearing Nicola's story, and hearing how she put her own career on hold in support of her partner's (who went on to be her husband), and then in support of her kids, will resonate with A LOT of women. But also hearing how she then reclaimed her career - her sense of self - as soon as the kids were a bit older, was equally joyous to hear. Because there is no 'right way' to build a career - no 'right' timeline to follow - and successful relationships/successful marriages are all about 'partnership' (in my view, at least). Nicola took the early sacrifice for the greater good, and her husband later sacrificed and supported her for the greater good. And Nicola is good; her whole persona exudes calmness and peace, which for someone like me = the persona of dreams.
Enjoy.
