65: Meet Katie: A brilliantly self-taught - and highly sought after - event caterer

Updated: Nov 4

Even writing this post I am reminded of the smells inside Katie's home when I went to pod her... As soon as I walked through the door (and having missed lunch), the smell of amazing home-cooked food hit me like a freight train.

... And kept hitting me as we were talking. Although, when I asked about it, it was 'only' what she had made for lunch for her and her partner... 'Nothing special'.

My stomach disagreed and I could tell there and then; if that was the smell of a casual lunch, then it's no wonder Katie is so busy with her catering business.

A catering business which to this day makes her family laugh, because as a child, and a young teen, Katie had no interest in food or cooking. Her parents also aren't caterers, so this whole career path came out of the blue.

... Although not entirely. Katie talks about being creative as a child, particularly with textiles, and so whether she realised it or not, she was always going to end up thriving in a role that allowed her to express the creative part of herself.

But it didn't happen quickly, and it didn't happen overnight... Quite a few 'normal' jobs went through Katie's path before she applied for and got a job cheffing at a local cafe.

Then covid hit, she was out of a job, and things sort-of went from there. Potentially accidentally, although more-so fuelled by a brilliant work ethic and a desire to succeed.

Which Katie has.

Please enjoy Katie's mouth-watering story.
