As I mention in this chat, I found and used a home organiser about 3 years ago. We needed to sell our family home, and we had A LOT (and I mean A LOT) of stuff. Cards on the table, I'm not the tidiest person in the world... I would say I'm average... However my ex-husband was incredibly messy and a BIG HOARDER, so even if I ever wanted to throw things away, I would always be met with a 'what are you doing? why are you doing that?'... Needless to say, we needed to declutter.
And after some online research I found the fab lady that came and worked with us. After 4 days with her and further work (using her methods) on my own, I had decluttered the whole house (bar my ex-husband's office and the spare room, which held a lot of his stuff, too). It was great and the house looked completely different.
I further staged the house with some niceties, we put it on the market, and it sold about 6-weeks later.
So I know home organising works, and when I joined the Southwood Maven group (that I have previously mentioned), and Abi said what she did for work, I was straight in there with a pod request.
Because with my curious 'backstory' head now, I'm almost obsessed with how people end up making the work choices they do. It's honestly fascinating. One day I should write a book...?
And Abi's backstory didn't disappoint. Her childhood working and running overseas student farms in Cambridgeshire (I know, right, so bizarre?!); Abi grew up fundamentally interested in people and being around people... and helping people.
And when she left the family business to make a go of things on her own, that experience led her into social care, community care and healing massage. The latter of which she still does.
It's interesting, because in truth none of those things really ticked the all-singing 'helping people' box her family farm business had, and although she excelled at each of those roles, and made sure that she always trained with the best of the best in each field; the box was only ever partially ticked.
Hopefully until now, because home organising has the potential to combine all of the skills she used on her family business: organising people, organising activity, teaching people, and ultimately, helping people. Which it really does.
And as we say at the end of the chat, please don't be put off with money and costs here, because you can hire Abi, and those like her, for just half a day, and still get amazing returns on that. She can even help you to save money, because (not only can you sell stuff to pay for the session), you stop buying duplicates after duplicates... which we ALL do, because we can't find or forget we had the original.
Enjoy Abi's story.
